The Unrushed Mind.
From Wix to hand-coded in three working days.
The brief.
Chriselle was renting a Wix site: slow on mobile, expensive every year, and indistinguishable from every other template-built coaching site. What's worse, the previous web designer left the job unfinished. She needed out — but not into another template. She wanted a site that felt like her brand: calm, warm, unhurried. And she needed it before her next workshop.
Three days.
Day 1 — the knowledge transfer.
I read everything she had; we talked; I wrote the copy. Three moods sketched for how “unrushed” could look on screen — she chose in ten minutes.
Day 2 — the build.
Seven pages of hand-coded HTML. Self-hosted fonts, a palette drawn from her own brand colours. No page-builder, no template, no bloat.
Day 3 — migration and launch.
GoDaddy-hosted domain moved away from Wix and pointed at Cloudflare. Google Workspace email preserved — MX, SPF and DMARC replicated record-for-record. Every old Wix URL 301-mapped. Zero downtime; her inbox never noticed.
Before and after.
| Before (Wix) | After (hand-coded) | |
|---|---|---|
| Platform | Wix, annual subscription | Static HTML, owned outright |
| Code size | ~2–5 MB of platform weight | 24 KB of hand-written CSS/JS |
| Hosting | ~£150–£200/yr | £0/month, Cloudflare Pages |
| Load time | Slow on mobile | Under 1 second on 4G |
| Fonts | Google Fonts (GDPR grey area) | Self-hosted WOFF2 |
| Ownership | Rented platform | Plain files in a Git repository |
Measured, not marketing: view-source is welcome — on her site and on this one.
Open it on your phone.
Seriously — theunrushedmind.com, on 4G. Notice the load time and the beautifully changing background colours. Notice what isn’t there: no pop-ups, no cookie wall. That’s what hand-coded feels like in the real world. This is the Phase 1 of the site, soon more elements will be added.
